Yesterday Microsoft surprisingly announced that they will support Open Document format (ODF). Microsoft also participates in the OASIS organisation. More of this to read on this

pressrelease. Computer Sweden add some interesting details. Microsoft is not going to support the ISO certified OOXML format in Office 2007, but will support an older version in that release. The support for ISO certified OOXML win not be available until next release of MS Office. There is severe differences between the two versions of OOXML. Knowing MS backwards compability history, my personal view is that it is probably so that the customer has to convert the documents between the new OOXML version. Thank god ODF is supported.
